"So let me get this straight", Lizzy said while trying to catch her breath, "those things were aliens and were trying to kill the entire human race, and you stop people and aliens like them on a regular basis?"
The man straightened his bow tie and with a slight smile he answered her with a simple "Yes."
"Who are you?"
"I'm the Doctor."
"Doctor who?"
"Just the Doctor." He stopped in front of an old blue police box, snapped his fingers, and the door swung open. "Now, shall we?"
He held out his hand towards her to inviter her in. But she had barely met the man. Even if he did just saved the planet, how did she now if he could be trusted? And yet, there was something about him that made her want to tell him her entire life story and let him take her to the end of the universe and back. She stretched her hand forward and let him guide her into the tiny blue box.
To her astonishment, the box wasn't as small as she thought it was. "It's bigger on the inside." She gasped in disbelief.
"Yes it is". The Doctor seemed pleased by this remark. Lizzy watched carefully as he began to push buttons, jiggle gadgets, and turn wheels in the middle of the room.
"What is it?" She asked as she pulled out an old camera from her bag.
"It's a TARDIS. Stands for time and relative dimension in space, in other words its…"
"A spaceship time machine." She interrupted him.
"Exactly!" He exclaimed with delight. "Oh you are a clever one."
Lizzy began snapping pictures from every angle she could possibly imagine. It had been a very long time since she felt so inspired by something, or someone.
"Why are you taking pictures?" the Doctor seemed very confused.
"Sorry" Lizzy apologized "it's kinda just what I do."
"Oh, you're a photographer too."
"What do you mean too?"
"Along side the arty stuff, drawing and painting. The stuff your friend gave you for your birthday." He stopped buzzing around the buttons suddenly. "Oh! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!"
Lizzy burst into laughter "Thank you."
"So!" The Doctor got right up to her face, "Where would you like to go for your birthday Elizabeth? That is assuming you want to come along with me."
"Of course I want to come with you!" She was astonished at how quickly those words had come out of her mouth. She knew nothing about the Doctor but felt as if she could trust him with her life. "I can go anywhere in time?"
"Or space." He waved his hands around as if to gesture the universe.
"Why don't we start with something small."
"Smalls great." His smile go wider "I've got just the place." He ran over to the controls pushed some more buttons and pulled on a lever. "Tell me Elizabeth, have you ever heard of a little gathering known as Woodstock?"
